New Delhi- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan adds another shining feather to her cap, received the prestigious First Ladies Award by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday evening. Making heads turn in a beautifully embroidered Sabyasachi sari, Ash was felicitated for being the first Indian actress to be the jury member at Cannes.
The Ministry of Women & Child Development has selected 112 women who have been the first to achieve a milestone in their respective fields and Ash was one of them.
“Keeping up with the solemn spirit of Empowered Nari, the Ministry conceptualized ‘First Ladies’. These First Ladies rose through barriers, standards, and oppressive notions to become the first women to excel in the fields which were thought to be beyond them,” said Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi.
Joining Aishwarya were other iconic women from different fields such as tennis player Sania Mirza, boxer Mary Kom, Everest climber Bachendri Pal and Olympic medal winning badminton player PV Sindhu, visually impaired chartered accountant Rajani Gopalkrishna and others.
