Panaji: Akash Ambani, the eldest son of India’s richest businessman Mukesh Ambani, proposed to Shloka Mehta in Goa on Saturday, reports suggested. As per the reports, the wedding is slated to take place later this year in Mumbai. Shloka Mehta is the youngest daughter of diamantaire Russell Mehta, who heads Rosy Blue Diamonds.
The Ambanis and Mehtas have known each for many years, and both Akash and Shloka studied together at Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS), at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
As per reports, 27-year-old Akash proposed to Shloka at sunset in Goa and the two were later joined by Mukesh Ambani, his wife Nita, and Akash’s siblings – twin sister Isha and younger brother Anant- as well as Shloka’s family members for a celebratory dinner.
“I am truly happy that our friendship has blossomed into love and Shloka and I are getting married. She is a truly special and extremely kindhearted person,” Akash said, according to a report by Economic Times. On the other hand, Shloka reportedly said, “Despite years and busy schedules, we have always found ways to stay connected. Akash is incredibly grounded and we share a bond based on meaning and memories. We don’t just get along – we also support each other’s hopes and aspirations and are determined to build a sense of purpose into our lives together. We are lucky to have a love that began with being best friends, and luckier still to have such supportive families.”
Shloka Mehta is the youngest daughter of diamantaire Russell Mehta and Mona Mehta. After finishing schooling at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in 2009, Shloka went on to study Anthropology at Princeton University and masters in Law at The London School of Economics and Political Science.
While Akash Ambani is on the board of Reliance Jio, Shloka is a director with Rosy Blue Foundation and is a co-founder of ConnectFor, an organization that helps NGOs get volunteers for various causes.
