J&K: Two civilians were killed and an Army jawan was martyred on Saturday in ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Poonch and Jammu districts of Jammu & Kashmir, as reported by the news agencies.
The Army jawan was identified as 23-year-old sepoy Mandeep Singh, a resident of Alampur village in Punjab’s Sangrur. A BSF jawan was also injured in RS Pura sector.
A defense spokesman said the Pakistani Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms and automatics from 0820 hours in Krishna Ghati sector. The Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively.
Exchange of fire between the two sides was underway till the last reports were received, as reported by PTI. This is the third consecutive day that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire. The neighboring country is targeting civilian villages to cause death and destruction, a BSF officer said.
Heavy firing has forced thousands of border residents to flee their homes, while authorities have announced that educational institutions will remain closed for three days along the Line of Control and International Border, as reported by PTI.
