Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavat continues to maintain a strong hold on the box office, breaking previous records. The Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer released in around 4000 screens after facing the ire of opposition from various fringe groups and religious outfits. The magnum opus, outlining the courageous tale of the Queen of Chittorgarh, Rani Padmavati, found itself at the receiving end of applauds for its grandeur, extravagant cinematography and a stellar show by the ensemble cast. While the film remains rock steady at the domestic ticket counters with Rs 219.5 crore in its kitty, worldwide collections seem to have crossed the Rs 400 crore mark already.
According to a report, Padmavat has collected Rs 402.94 crore at the worldwide box-office thereby becoming the ninth highest grosser of all time. Notably, Padmavat is the only film on the list to star not a single Khan.
The epic period drama has had terrific figures raking in at the foreign box office too including Australia, United States of America, Canada while Maharashtra and South India are the strong areas of performance in India. Padmavat released in Tamil and Telugu as well, besides in Hindi, which brought in more moolah for the makers.
Bhansali’s labor of love has elbowed aside his previous outing Bajirao Mastani, Shah Rukh Khan’s and Dilwale and even Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to grab the ninth spot in the list of the highest-grossing films. While Dangal sits on the top with Rs 2026.65 crore, as reported by BollywoodHungama, PK, Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai, Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express precede Padmaavat in the worldwide rankings.
